I started in finance because I didn’t know much, and it bothered me. I felt like everything that I wanted to do in my life was linked to underlying financial dynamics that were out of my control. So, I decided that I would learn how to control finances. I started out at a firm that specialized in managing the investments for uber wealthy families. I earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and began to pursue sustainable investing work, which I did full time for 2 years.
However, in my late 20s I realized that I needed to come out of the clouds of high-finance and ground myself in real world issues. How do I do regular-people stuff? Save for college for my son? Save for retirement? So, now I am working to add a Certified Financial Planner designation to my CFA. I work with clients to trade their stocks and bonds, while also developing financial plans.
